UB Women's Tennis Drops Two Mid-American Conference Matches

Bulls Fall to Northern Illinois Huskies and Western Michigan Broncos

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis program, fresh off its first Mid-American Conference victory over Akron, dropped two conference road matches over the weekend. The Bulls dropped a pair of 7-0 victories to Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.

UB is now 3-13 overall and 1-6 in MAC matches.

Sophomore Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and junior Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) were defeated 8-1 in both weekend contests.

Freshman Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and junior Anne Schule (Snyder, NY/Amherst) dropped their second-doubles match to NIU, 8-1, and then lost 8-0 to WMU.

At third doubles, junior Kendra Pyke (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and sophomore Jill Howell (Canadaigua/Canadaigua Academy) also dropped their doubles matches, 8-1 and 8-0, respectively.

At first singles, Maynard recorded two losses, 6-0, 6-0 against NIU and 6-2, 6-1 against WMU.

Amarasinghe was swept 6-0, 6-0 in both her weekend matches at second singles, while Schule dropped her third-singles match at NIU 6-0, 6-2 and then 6-0, 6-0 against WMU.

In both her weekend matches at fourth singles, Pyke was swept 6-0, 6-0, while junior Meaghan Partelow (Lyons, NY/Lyons) dropped both her matches, 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles. Howell was also swept 6-0, 6-0 this weekend in both sixth-singles matches.

UB's next competitions are at home at the UB Tennis Center on Friday, April 20, against Eastern Michigan and Saturday, April 21, against Toledo.
