Bulls Roll Past Akron, 7-0 The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak with an easy 7-0 win against Akron this past Friday. The Bulls won all three doubles contests and all six matches in singles play. Popescu And Stan Pick Up 22nd Win Junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) and freshman Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) each picked up singles wins against Akron and continue to tie for the team lead with 22 singles wins. Popescu has also teamed up with Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) at first doubles where she now has 19 doubles victories as well. Popescu’s current record with the two combined is 41-9. Stan has nine doubles victories on the year, which gives her a combined 31 victories.
Novaceanu And Harijanto Close In On 20 Senior Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and sophomore Denise Harijanto are both looking to close in on their 20th singles win of the year. Harijanto has 17 wins on the year and will look to hit the 20th win during the conference tournament, while Novaceanu has 18 victories in singles play and can hit her 20th win this weekend against Eastern Michigan. Novaceanu is UB’s all-time leader in singles wins with 81. Up Next The Bulls wrap up the regular season this weekend as they host a pair of Mid-American Conference matches. The Bulls face Toledo on Friday at 1:00 pm and end the season against Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 1:00 pm. If the weather cooperates, both matches will be played outdoor at the University Tennis Club. The indoor venue for both matches is the Village Glen Tennis Center.
