CLEVELAND, OH - On Wednesday, University at Buffalo freshman Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The honor was the first such recognition for a UB women's tennis player since the school joined the conference prior to the 1998 season.

Last Friday at the Village Glen Tennis Center, Nenova earned a first singles comeback victory over Irina Strembitsky during UB's 4-3 win over Akron. Strembitsky, who was the top-ranked player in the MAC and was ranked in a tie for 114th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won the first set 6-1 and led 3-1 in the second set. Nenova then rallied to win the second set, 6-4, and finish off the match with a 6-2 victory in the third set.

On the season, Nenova has a 10-2 mark in first singles match play and is 5-2 within the MAC. Including tournaments and second singles play, she is 18-5 overall during her freshman campaign.

Buffalo closes out its regular season with matches at Toledo on Friday and at Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The Bulls will compete in the MAC Championships, which begin on Wednesday, April 21 at Northern Illinois.
