Women's Tennis Scores 4-3 Victory at Toledo

Bulls hand Rockets first Mid-American Conference loss

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team scored a 4-3 victory over Toledo Friday afternoon to knock the Rockets from the ranks of the unbeaten in Mid-American Conference play. UB is now 13-2 overall and 5-1 in MAC competition. Toledo is 13-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.

The Bulls opened the match with three doubles wins, all by 8-4 scores.

UB scored three singles wins to claim the match. In the number three match, junior Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) scored a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Maha Guirguis. In the number four match, senior Natalie Dean (Feilding, New Zealand/Palmerston North) knocked off Nadia Zoubareva, 6-4, 6-0. Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg), playing in the number six slot, defeated Jessica Azoulay, 6-2, 7-5. Fischer has now won her last six singles matches in a row and is unbeaten in MAC competition at 4-0.

With the victory, the Bulls moved back into second place in the MAC standings at 5-1 and are a half-game behind Western Michigan (5-0 MAC), which hosts Bowling Green (4-1 MAC) on Saturday. UB concludes its road trip on Saturday at Eastern Michigan. Match time is slated for 1:00 pm.
