Bulls Fall To Bowling Green, 4-3

BUFFALO, NY – For the second straight afternoon the University at Buffalo women’s tennis team found itself in a tight match coming down to sixth singles. However, on Saturday afternoon the visiting Bowling Green Falcons escaped with a 4-3 win at the Village Glen Tennis Center. The loss for UB drops their record to 12-5 and 5-2 in the MAC.

UB took the doubles point as the Bulls claimed victories at first and third doubles. UB’s number one team of Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu won an easy 8-1 decision against Kelsey Jakupcin and Christine Chiricosta. At third doubles, the team of Smaranda Stan and Diana Toia defeated Libby Harrison and Stefanie Menoff, 8-6.

In singles action, UB got off to a good start as Harijanto made quick work at first singles, defeating Jakupcin, 6-0, 6-1. BG then came back, winning the next three singles matches to go up 3-2 before UB tied it up with a win at fifth singles by Aleksandra Petrova as she defeated Menoff, 6-3, 6-1. That left it up to the sixth singles match. After dropping the first set, Anna Subenkova came back to win the second set and force a third. After getting broken early in the match, Subenkova was unable to fight all the way back dropping a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 decision.

UB will wrap up the regular season at home next Saturday as they host Akron at 1:00 pm.
