BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) has been named as the Mid-American Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced in Cleveland this afternoon.

Novaceanu swept her two singles matches and went 1-1 in doubles play last weekend as the Bulls defeated Eastern Michigan and Toledo. Playing first singles, she scored a 6-2, 7-5 win over the Eagles' Elizabeth Syrova, 6-2, 7-5, on Friday and then knocked off the Rockets' Myriam Cueva, 6-4, 7-5. Novaceanu paired with doubles partner Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) to defeat Syrova and Aditi Krishnan, 8-4, at second doubles in the Eastern Michigan match.

The sophomore, last season's MAC Freshman of the Year, is currently riding an 11-match winning streak in singles play after defeating Akron's Tanya Gombera, 6-0, 6-2, in UB's 7-0 victory over the Zips this afternoon. For the year, she is 24-4 in singles play and 14-1 in dual-meet competition. She has not lost a singles match since February 10.

This is Novaceanu's second MAC recognition this season. She earned Co-Player of the Week honors with Miami's Remy Swain on March 8.

The Bulls (11-4, 3-2 MAC) travel to Northern Illinois on Saturday for a 1:00 pm match with the Huskies.
