Women's Tennis Weekly Release - April 10, 2000The Bulls women's tennis team fell to 5-12 overall and 0-6 in Mid-American Conference play with conference losses at Miami (Ohio) and Marshall over the weekend. UB lost both matches by identical 7-0 scores. Against Miami, freshman Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Speckenkill) proved to be the top performer for the Bulls. Playing at number three singles Maynard won three games over the two sets but lost to Catherine Dilley 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Kris Van Schoonhoven (Lockport, NY/Lockport) won a pair of games against Erica Echko in a 6-1, 6-1 loss. The Bulls won just three games against a strong Marshall team that now leads the MAC with a 6-0 record and is 16-5 overall. Sophomore fifth singles Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) lost 6-1, 6-0 to Karolina Pierko while Maynard dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Kelly Peller at third singles. The doubles team of Maynard and Nicole Sargent (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) also won one game falling to Anna Mitina and Ana Ceretto 8-1. UB has a pair of matches scheduled for the upcoming weekend. The Bulls travel to
Cleveland for a non-conference tilt against Cleveland State on Friday and then head to Akron for
MAC match against the Zips on Saturday. |
