Bulls Shut Out Zips in Lone Weekend Match
The University at Buffalo women's tennis team got back into the win column on Friday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of Mid-American Conference foe Akron at the Village Glen Tennis Center. The Bulls are now 12-2 overall and 4-1 in league action. The win by the Bulls keeps them in third place in the MAC standings with two weekends left to play.
Bagels Galore in the Doubles Contests
Denise Harijanto | The Bulls got things rolling against Akron with three doubles wins, including a pair of shutouts, to clinch the opening point. UB's number one tandem of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) blanked Tanya Gombera and Amy Sherlock, 8-0. The number three team of Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) and Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) also scored an 8-0 win over Alyssa Carlson and Aude Percherin. UB’s number two team of Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Natalie Dean (Feilding, New Zealand/Palmerston North) gave up just two games in downing Jenna Larson and Lindsey Berry, 8-2.
Harijanto and Nenova Reach 20 Wins
Miglena Nenova | With their doubles wins over Akron, both freshman Denise Harijanto and senior Miglena Nenova earned their 20th victories of the season. Both are currently 20-6 and the two had combined for a 14-5 record when paired together earlier in the season. In singles play, junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) is nearing the 20-win plateau after picking up number 19 on Friday with her straight-sets win over Alyssa Carlson. Harijanto scored her 18th singles win by defeating Jenna Larson, 6-2, 6-0.
