The Bulls got things rolling against Akron with three doubles wins, including a pair of shutouts, to clinch the opening point. UB's number one tandem of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) blanked Tanya Gombera and Amy Sherlock, 8-0. The number three team of Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) and Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) also scored an 8-0 win over Alyssa Carlson and Aude Percherin. UB’s number two team of Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Natalie Dean (Feilding, New Zealand/Palmerston North) gave up just two games in downing Jenna Larson and Lindsey Berry, 8-2.

In singles play, junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) is nearing the 20-win plateau after picking up number 19 on Friday with her straight-sets win over Alyssa Carlson. Harijanto scored her 18th singles win by defeating Jenna Larson, 6-2, 6-0.
