Bulls Come Up Short On The Road The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team fell short in each of its two road matches this past weekend as it fell 4-3 to Bowling Green and 6-1 to defending conference champion, Western Michigan. The Bulls were unable to secure the doubles point in either match and combined for just four singles victories on the weekend. Stan Picks Up A Pair Junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) won both of her singles matches on the weekend and is now tied for the team lead with 21 singles victories. On Friday, Stan defeated Samantha Kintzel easily, 6-1, 6-1. On Saturday, Stan picked up UB’s lone victory as she defeated Western Michigan’s Emily Dudzik, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Stan currently has 54 singles wins in her career, which is sixth all-time.
Novaceanu Hits Win Number 80 Senior Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) picked up the 80th singles victory of her career on Friday as she defeated Bowling Green’s Kelsey Jakupcin, 7-5, 0-6, 6-2. Novaceanu, who is UB’s all-time leader in singles wins is the first women’s player to reach 80 career wins and she is just the second UB tennis player, men’s or women’s, to reach that mark. On the men’s side, Mike Rockman, who played at UB from 2003-07, has 83 career singles victories. Up Next The Bulls complete their three-match road trip this upcoming Friday as they travel to Akron for a 1:00 pm start. It will be the last time the Bulls hit the road as they complete the season with two home matches before hosting the 2008 MAC Tournament.
