Bulls Fall to Huskies

Women's Tennis Loses to Northern Illinois

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team continued competition in its 2002 spring season on Saturday with a 6-1 loss to Northern Illinois University.

At first singles, junior Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) fell to Branka Savic, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Michaela Kollarova (Slovak Republic/Bratislava) fell at second singles to Tanja Sukovic, 6-0, 6-2. At third singles, senior Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) fell to Karrie Tyioran, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Jennifer Wong (Penfield, NY/Penfield) fell to Erica Heshelman at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0. At fifth singles, senior Meaghan Partelow (Lyons, NY/Lyons) was defeated by Kris Tiedt, 6-2, 6-0. Buffalo took the sixth singles win by default.

In doubles competition, Maynard and Amarasinghe fell to Savic and Heshelman at number one, 8-0. At second doubles, Kollarova and Wong fell to Molly Opel and Tiedt, 8-2. At third doubles, Partelow and Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) were defeated by Sukovic and Tyioran, 8-1.

The Bulls are next in action against Toledo on Friday, April 12 at 1 pm in Toledo, OH.
