Bulls fall 6-1 to defending conference champions

KALAMAZOO, MI- The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team fought hard during its match against the Western Michigan Broncos, but fell short, losing 6-1 to the defending MAC Champions. The Bulls picked up individual wins in both singles and doubles and are now 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in the MAC.

The Bulls picked up a win at first doubles where Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) defeated Kerstin Pahl and Priyanka Parekh, 8-3. Harijanto and Popescu have won each of their five MAC matches this season.

In singles play, junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) won her match at fourth singles as she defeated Emily Dudzik, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Stan now has 21 singles victories on the year, which ties her for the team lead. Despite losing the other five singles matches, the Bulls fought hard as they sent one into three sets and two other matches into tiebreakers.

The Bulls are back in action on Friday as they travel to Akron. The match with the Zips is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
