Stan Picks Up Singles Victory Against Miami

Bulls drop first conference match, 6-1

OXFORD, OH – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team dropped it first match in nearly a month and a half as the Bulls fell at preseason MAC favorite, Miami, 6-1. The loss snaps UB’s nine-match winning streak and drops their record to 10-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.

For the first time in conference play, UB lost the doubles point, but UB’s number one team of the Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu continued to roll as they defeated Megan Martzlof and Stephanie Danesis, 9-7. The regionally-ranked duo faced an early 3-0 deficit in the match before coming back to eventually force a 7-7 tie and then take the final two games for the victory. In singles action UB picked up a victory at third singles as senior Smaranda Stan defeated Martzlof, 6-2, 7-6 (1).

Diana Popescu

UB remains on the road tomorrow when they head to Muncie, IN to face Ball State. It will be UB’s last road match of the regular season as the Bulls finish the year with three straight matches at home.
