pick up wins in singles and doubles

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s
tennis team returned home for the first time since late February,
defeating Eastern Michigan, 5-2, at the University Tennis Courts. The
win evens UB’s record to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in the
Mid-American Conference.
The conditions were a bit windy, but in the upper 70’s
throughout the match. UB got off to a quick start taking the doubles
point. The Bulls picked up a victory at third doubles as Diana
Popescu and Diana
Toia defeated Marcela Rivero and Celine Donnet, 8-2. EMU then won
at second doubles before the Bulls clinched the point with a victory at

Petrova, who are regionally-ranked in the Northeast, had no problem
defeating Julia Breuss and Miriam Westerink, 8-3.

The Bulls continued to roll in singles as Harijanto defeated Breuss
at first singles, 6-3, 6-1 and freshman Tamara
Markovic defeated Donnet at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-2, giving UB a
3-0 lead. The Eagles got on the board at fourth singles with a
three-set victory, but the Bulls would clinch the match at fifth
singles as freshman Kira
Golenko overcame a first set loss to defeat Rivero, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Bulls got their fifth point of the contest on a win from Petrova at
third singles as she also overcame a first set loss to defeat Xu Chang,
5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
The Bulls remain home tomorrow as they host Toledo at 1:00 pm
