MUNCIE, IN - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team rebounded from Friday's loss at Bowling Green to rally past Ball State, 4-3, in Mid-American Conference action at the Muncie YMCA. The win moves the Bulls to a 6-3 overall record and 2-2 MAC mark while the Cardinals are now 12-4 overall and 2-1 in MAC play.

A victory by Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) at third singles gave the Bulls the deciding margin. Nenova needed three sets to dispose of Ball State's Haly Calderwood, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

UB also won three additional singles matches. At first singles, Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) defeated Jenny Batty, 7-5, 6-1. At fourth singles, Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) downed Jennifer Pollack, 6-2, 6-2. At sixth singles, Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) rolled past Katie Owens, 7-5, 6-4.

Ball State won two singles matches. At number two, Jessica Thompson defeated UB's Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst), 7-6 (3), 6-2, while at number five, Stephanie Farrar downed Sabrina Carmona (Sao Paulo, Brazil/MMDC), 6-2, 6-1.

UB started singles play in 1-0 hole as the Cardinals won the doubles points with victories at number two and three. UB's lone doubles win was at number one as Novaceanu and Ortman conbined for an 8-5 win over Batty and Farrar. At number two, Nenova and Jacob lost to Thompson and Owens, 8-5, while Fischer and Onessa Williams (Albany, NY/Albany) fell to Calderwood and Pollack, 8-1, at number three. It was the first time this season that Novaceanu and Ortman and Nenova and Jacob were paired together. Most of the season, Novaceanu and Jacob have combined at first doubles while Nenova and Ortman comprised the second team.

The Bulls return home for a pair of MAC contests next week hosting Northern Illinois on Friday and Western Michigan on Saturday.
