BOWLING GREEN, OH - The University at Buffalo's Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) became the women's tennis team's winningest singles player at the Division I level on Friday, but it wasn't enough as the Bulls dropped a 6-1 decision to Bowling Green at Keefe Courts in Mid-American Conference action. The Bulls are now 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the MAC while the Falcons are now 9-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Ortman's win was the lone bright spot for the Bulls as the junior won her match at third singles over Bowling Green's Andrea Volle, 6-2, 6-0. It was Ortman's 38th win of her career to surpass Stacey Gargan (1994-97) and Annulett Dillon (1995-99), who both posted 37 victories in UB's Division I history. UB began Division I play in 1991. Ortman is 10-6 this season, including a 5-1 mark at third singles. She also became UB's winningest doubles player earlier this season and now has 36 doubles triumphs.

In other singles matches, UB's Andrea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) fell to Susie Schoenberger, 7-5, 6-4, at number one. At number two, Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) was defeated by Ashley Jakupcin, 6-0, 7-6. UB's Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg), playing at fourth singles pushed Heidi Romer to three sets but fell, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. At number five, Sabrina Carmona (Sao Paulo, Brazil/MMDC) lost to Andrea Meister, 7-5, 7-5. Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC), playing in the number six match fell to Cameron Benjamin, 6-2, 6-2. The Bulls and Falcons also played a pair of exhibition matches. UB's Onessa Williams (Albany, NY/Albany) knocked off Ericka Wolfe, 8-3, while Jamie Jackson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) lost to Laura Kokinda, 8-0.

The Bulls were swept in the doubles contests to open the match. Novaceanu and Jacob, at number one, fell to Schoenberger and Jakupcin, 8-6. At number two, Ortman and Nenova lost to Meister and Volle, 9-8. UB's number three team of Fischer and Carmona lost to Romer and Benjamin, 8-3.
