Bulls Split Weekend Of MAC Play

The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team returned home for the first time in over a month this past weekend as they hosted a pair of MAC opponents at the Village Glen Tennis Center. The Bulls began the weekend with a 7-0 victory over Ball State, but on Saturday they came up short in a highly contested match against Miami (OH). The RedHawks claimed the match, 5-2.

Harijanto Has Flawless Weekend

Sophomore Denise Harijanto (Jarkata, Indonesia) won all four of her matches over the weekend, playing at first doubles with Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza). The two combined for an 8-5 win over Ball State’s number one pair and an 8-3 victory over the number one duo from Miami (OH). In singles play, Harijanto played in the third spot in the UB lineup and defeated Ball State’s Haly Calderwood, 6-1, 6-4 and beat Miami’s Leda Pesatova, 6-4, 7-6 (6). Harijanto has a 16-7 mark in singles on the year and a 15-4 doubles record.

Toia then played fifth singles for the Bulls where she defeated the Cardinals’ Georgina Thompson, 7-6 (5), 6-3. On Saturday, she beat Miami’s Sydnee Bridger, 7-6 (2), 6-3. Toia now has 10 singles victories on the year and is tied for tops on the team with 16 doubles wins.
