Harijanto And Toia Post Wins Against Miami

Bulls lose close contest to the RedHawks, 5-2

BUFFALO, NY- The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team lost its first Mid-American Conference contest of the season on Saturday afternoon as Miami (OH) won a close match, 5-2, at the Village Glen Tennis Center. The Bulls are now 7-5 on the year and 2-1 in the MAC.

In doubles play, UB’s number one team of Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) defeated Brintney Larson and Anastasia Dracheva, 8-3, but it was UB’s only doubles win as the RedHawks clinched the doubles point with two wins.

In singles action, Harijanto won her match at third singles as she defeated Leda Pesatova, 6-4, 7-6 (6). In addition to that win, sophomore Diana Toia (Rochester, NY/Brighton) won her match at fifth singles as she defeated Sydnee Bridger, 7-6 (2), 6-3. The match was close throughout as three singles contests all went to three sets. Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) came up just short at number one singles as she fell to Dracheva, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) also went into three sets at number four singles against Kelly Douple where Douple won, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) fell at sixth singles to Victoria Pulido, 5-7, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (8).

The Bulls now hit the road for a three-match road trip beginning this Friday at Bowling Green. The Bulls and Falcons get things going at 1:00 pm.
