Bulls Fall to Marshall, 7-0

UB women's tennis drops match to defending MAC Tournament champions

HUNTINGTON, WV - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team fell 7-0 to defending Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Marshall Saturday at the Huntington Tennis Club. With the loss, the Bulls drop to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in league play while the Thundering Herd improve to 8-6 and 3-0 in the MAC.

In doubles play, UB was swept by the Thundering Herd. Top singles duo Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) were defeated 8-2 by Jessica Johnson and Danielle Hock. At number two, Michelle Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) fell 8-0 to Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudie. The number three team of Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) dropped an 8-3 decision to Joelle Good and Holly Asel.

Singles play didn't fare much better as the Bulls dropped all six matches. Maynard fell to Johnson, 6-1, 6-1, at number one. Ortman, at number two, was defeated by Hock, 6-2, 6-0. Kollarova was able to take a few games from Good at number three, but dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision. At number four, Zielinski fell to Asel, 6-0, 6-0. Wittman was bested by Meghan Skalsky, 6-0, 6-1 at number five. At number six, Wendy Rose (Eden, NY/Eden) played strong tennis, winning the most games of any of the Bulls, but was defeated by Olivia Hill, 6-4, 6-3.

The Bulls continue Mid-American Conference play at Akron on Friday, April 4 starting at 2 pm.
