Women’s Tennis Swept by Western Michigan

UB falls to Broncos, 7-0, to complete road trip

KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Western Michigan in Mid-American Conference action on Saturday. With the loss, the Bulls fall to 7-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.

In the doubles matches, UB’s number one team of Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) were defeated by Frederika Girsang and Reedhina Parekh, 8-1. At number two, UB’s Michelle Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) fell to Valeria Stoilova and Rattiya Hiranrat, 8-0. The number three team of Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) dropped an 8-1 decision to Maelynn Bernosky and Carrie Jeanmaire.

UB fell in all six singles matches, unable to win a set against the homestanding Broncos. At number one, Nenova lost to Girsang, 6-4, 6-2. It was the first dual-meet singles loss for the freshman after posting 12 straight wins, including eight at the top of the ladder. Ortman, at number two, was defeated by Jeanmaire, 6-2, 6-2. Fischer fell to Parekh, at number three, 6-2, 6-1. At number four, Wittman dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Stoilova. Kollarova, at number five, fell 6-0, 6-0 to Hiranrat. Onessa Williams (Albany, NY/Albany/Mohawk Valley CC) won the most games of any of UB’s singles competitors with seven, but fell to Bernosky, 6-4, 6-3.

The Bulls host Mid-American Conference leader Marshall on Friday, April 2 at 1:00 pm.
