BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Eastern Michigan in Mid-American Conference action on Saturday at the Village Glen Tennis Center in Williamsville, NY. The Bulls are now 5-2 overall and 1-1 in league play while the Eagles improve to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.

The match opened with Eastern Michigan claiming two of the three doubles contests to take the 1-0 lead on the Bulls. UB's lone doubles win was at number two as the duo of Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) defeated Laura Fernandez and Flavia Micati, 8-6. At number one, UB's Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) fell to Victoria Domina and Vanessa Frankowski, 8-3. UB's number three team of Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) and Sabrina Carmona (Sao Paulo, Brazil/MMDC) fell to Elizabeth Syrova and Yana Parfenyuk by an 8-6 score.

Nenova and Jacob claimed singles wins for the Bulls. Nenova, moving down to the number two spot on Saturday after playing first singles against Toledo on Friday, had little trouble defeating Syrova, 6-1, 6-2. Jacob, at sixth singles, needed a strong effort to rally past Micati. After Micati won the opening set, 6-3, Jacob tied the match with a 6-4 win in the second set and then took the super-tiebreaker, 10-7, to claim the point for the Bulls.

Eastern Michigan took the other four singles matches to post the win. Domina defeated Novaceanu, who had moved up from the second spot on Friday, 6-3, 6-2. At number three, Frankowski downed Ortman in a super-tiebreaker, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8). UB's Fischer fell to Parfenyuk, 6-4, 6-2, at number four and Carmona, at number five, lost to Fernandez, 6-1, 6-2.

The Bulls continue MAC play next weekend on the road at Bowling Green on Friday, April 1 and Ball State on Saturday, April 2.
