BOWLING GREEN, OH - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team fell to Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green, 5-2, on Saturday at the Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Club. The Bulls are now 8-4 overall and 0-2 in league play while the Falcons move to 13-4, 2-0 MAC.

UB claimed the doubles point to go up 1-0 on the Falcons. It was the first time in the last seven matches that Bowling Green did not earn the point. UB's number one combination of Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Natalie Dean (Feilding, New Zealand/Palmerston) knocked off Heidi Romer and Jenna Nussbaum, 8-3, at number one. The win was clinched by the number three duo of Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) with an 8-6 win over Andrea Meister and Andrea Volle. UB's number two tandem of Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) and Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) fell to BGSU's sister duo of Ashley and Kesley Jakupcin, 8-4.

The lone UB singles victory was by Novaceanu, who moved up to the number two slot for the match. Novaceanu rolled past Nussbaum, 6-1, 6-3, to extend her school-record single season win total to 21 and notch her eighth straight victory.

Ortman fell in a third-set super-tiebreaker to Romer at number three, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). The remainder of the matches were decided in straight sets. Nenova was defeated by Ashley Jakupcin, at number one, 6-4, 6-3. At number four, Dean dropped a 6-4, 6-4 contest to Meister. Stan fell to Kelsey Jakupcin, 7-5, 6-2, at number five, while Jacob lost to Stefanie Menoff, 6-2, 6-1, in the number six match.

In an eight-game pro-set exhibition at number seven, UB's Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) fell to Erica Wolfe, 8-1.

The Bulls travel to Akron next Saturday for a MAC showdown with the Zips at 1:00 pm.
