Bulls Sweep MAC Competition For Eight Straight Win The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team continued its longest winning streak in school history as the Bulls have now won eight in a row following road victories at Eastern Michigan and Toledo. UB opened MAC play with a 7-0 sweep of the Eagles and followed that with a 5-2 win over the Rockets. Three Bulls End The Weekend 4-0
The Bulls had three players who went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend led by junior Denise Harijanto who did so from the first singles and doubles position. Harijanto combined with Diana Popescu at first doubles to sweep both EMU and Toledo. In singles play, Harijanto won both of her matches in straight sets. Also impressive for the Bulls was the play of their third doubles team of senior Smaranda Stan and junior Anna Subenkova. Not only did the two win both of their doubles matches, but they also swept their singles competition. Stan and Subenkova picked up a huge victory against Toledo, which helped the Bulls claim the doubles point. In singles play, Stan played at third singles and in true Smaranda Stan fashion, defeated both of her opponents in three sets. Subenkova was also impressive as she won both of her matches in straight sets at sixth singles. Bottom Of The Lineup Stepping Up
In addition to Subenkova’s strong play at third doubles and sixth singles, sophomore Aleksandra Petrova also played well this past weekend from the fifth singles and second doubles spot. Petrova won both of her matches in straight sets this past weekend and no player took more than three games in a set off of her. In doubles play, she split at second doubles with Diana Toia as the duo picked up a win against Eastern Michigan. Bulls Return Home For The Huskies After spending the last nine matches on the road, winning eight of them, the Bulls finally return home this Saturday as they host Northern Illinois. The Bulls are currently 9-3 and 2-0 in the MAC, while NIU is 5-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The match is set for 1:00 pm and will either be played at the University Tennis Center or at the Village Glen Tennis Center depending on weather.
