UB Women Defeated by Miami, 7-0

Bulls' women's tennis squad swept in Mid-American Conference matchup

OXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team fell to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in Mid-American Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to Miami University in league action at the Riverside Racket Club.

The UB duo of Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) held their own in an 8-3 loss to Kadija Richards and Catherine Dilley at first doubles. At number two, Michaela Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Jennifer Wong (Penfield, NY/Penfield) fell to Brooke Peyton and Megan Zimpfer, 8-1. Kendra Pyke (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and Anne Schule (Amherst, NY/Amherst) were defeated in the number three doubles match, 8-0, by Erica Ebko and Nancy Wiegand.

Maynard also put up a good fight in her match against Zimpfer falling 6-4, 6-2 at number one singles. Kollarova was defeated at number two by Peyton 6-1, 6-2. Amarasinghe, at number three, lost to Dilley 6-0, 6-0. Wong dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Ebko at number four. At fifth singles, Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) was defeated by Wiegand 6-0, 6-0. Meaghan Partelow (Lyons, NY/Lyons) fell 6-1, 6-1 to Cassie Uhl in the sixth singles match.

The Bulls now head to Orlando, FL for a pair of spring break matches. UB takes on the University of Portland on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. The Bulls will also meet Tampa at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
