Bulls Defeat Toledo For Eighth Straight Victory

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team swept its opening weekend of MAC play with a 5-2 win at Toledo on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls are now 9-3 on the year and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play.

The Bulls claimed the doubles point for the second straight day as UB took two of the three doubles matches. UB’s first doubles team of Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu defeated Ashley Frey and Nadia Zoubareva, 8-3. Also picking up the victory was the third doubles team of Smaranda Stan and Anna Subenkova who defeated Melissa Reynolds and Jessica Azoulay, 8-4.

Going into singles play the Bulls claimed four of the six matches to come away with the victory. Harijanto picked up the win at first singles as she defeated Frey, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Harijanto was one three of UB players to win in straight sets as the Bulls also picked them up at fifth and sixth singles. Aleksandra Petrova picked up the win at fifth singles against Azoulay, 6-1, 6-3, while Subenkva defeated Reynolds at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-1. Stan also claimed victory for UB at third singles, doing so in three sets over Zoubareva, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

The Bulls will now return home this weekend as they host Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
