UB Women Fall To Hawaii,7-0

Team completes three-match swin through Aloha State

WAIPIO, HI - The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Western Athletic Conference member Hawaii at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex to complete its three-match spring break competition. The Bulls even their record to 6-6 as they return to the mainland.

The Rainbow Wahine (5-8) picked up the doubles point with wins in all three matches. UB's number one team of Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) were defeated, 8-3, by Kimberly Curtis and Justine Boutet. At number two, Michelle Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) fell to Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor, 8-0. UB's Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and Wendy Rose (Eden, NY/Eden) were defeated, 8-2, by Stacy Hakikawa and Mio Fukushima at number three.

The Bulls also were swept in the singles matches, although Ortman did record a set victory in her number two match against Hakikawa. Ortman took the first set, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-3, to set up a tiebreaker, won by Hakikawa, 10-7.

Maynard fell at number one to Fitzgerald, 6-0, 6-1. Kollarova was defeated by Mainor, 6-2, 6-3, at number three. Zielinski was decisioned by Fukushima, 6-0, 6-0, at number four. At number five, Wittman fell to Curtis, 6-1, 6-0, and at number six Rose was defeated by Beverly Thomas, 6-3, 6-1.

The Bulls return home as the remainder of the spring schedule consists of Mid-American Conference contests. UB is back in action on March 28 and 29 when they travel to Miami (OH) and Marshall.
