Novaceanu Wins MAC Tennis Award
BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo sophomore Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) has been named the Mid-American Conference’s Women’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week. She shares the weekly honor with Miami’s Remy Swain. Novaceanu did not allow a game against her in UB’s 7-0 win over Niagara on March 5. She teamed with Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) to defeat the Niagara tandem of Jacquelyn Cary and Sheila Dargout, 8-0, at second doubles. Novaceanu then bested Cary in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the number three slot. The MAC’s Freshman of the Year in 2005, Novaceanu currently leads the Bulls with a 16-4 record in singles play. In her career, she has racked up 35 singles victories, to stand fifth in UB’s Division I history. This is her second MAC Player of the Week in her career. The Bulls (6-1) travel to Florida for their Spring Break matches starting Monday at Hillsborough CC. |
