Bulls Fall to AkronSTOW, OH - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team continued competition in its 2002 spring season on Saturday with a 6-1 loss to University of Akron. At first singles, junior Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) fell to Irina Strembitsky, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Michaela Kollarova (Slovak Republic/Bratislava) fell at second singles to Anniken Andersen, 6-0, 6-2. At third singles, senior Shani Amarasinghe (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) fell to Diana Serafini, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Jennifer Wong (Penfield, NY/Penfield) fell to Arianna Rojas-Serpa at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-2. At fifth singles, senior Meaghan Partelow (Lyons, NY/Lyons) was defeated by Mindy Price, 6-2, 6-1. The Bulls took the sixth singles victory by default. The Bulls struggled with the doubles matches. Maynard and Amarasinghe fell to Strembitsky and Anderson at number one, 8-0. Freshman duo Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) were defeated at second doubles by Serafini and Rojas-Serpa, 8-0. The Bulls took the third singles victory by default. The Bulls are next in action against Marshall University on March 22 in Huntington, West Virginia. |
