Bulls Sweep Competition In The Steel City The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team picked up two victories this past weekend, defeating Duquesne 7-0 and then beating previously unbeaten Pittsburgh, 5-2. The Panthers were 7-0 and 4-0 in Big East play coming into the match. Doubles Has Up And Down Weekend The Bulls won the doubles point against Duquesne as they took two of the three matches. Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu won their match at first doubles, while Smaranda Stan and Anna Subenkova picked up a victory at third doubles. During the Pitt match, UB dropped all three doubles matches. It was UB’s first loss at first doubles since the semifinals of the ITA Regionals.
Bulls Dominate Singles Play UB won 11 of its 12 singles matches this past weekend, including all six against Duquesne. Harijanto and Popescu swept their competition at first and second singles, respectively. Stan, who played third singles on Friday, moved to fourth singles where she defeated opponents both days in straight sets. Junior Diana Toia, moved into the three spot after playing four on Friday and she impressed against Pitt, winning 6-3, 6-0. Also sweeping on the weekend was Subenkova at sixth singles where she won both of her matches. Sophomore Aleksandra Petrova played fifth singles for the Bulls and split on the weekend as she picked up a victory against Duquesne before falling at Pitt. Bulls Head To Florida For Spring Break The Bulls will be idle this week before they head down to Florida next week for Spring Break matches. UB will play three matches in four days while down in Florida. UB begins against Barry on March 10 and then will face Southern Illinois on March 11. The Bulls will close out competition down in Florida on March 13 against Nova Southern.
