Bulls Fall To Northern Illinois, 7-0

UB women's tennis team falls to 6-3 overall, 0-2 in league play

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Mid-American Conference rival Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at the Village Glen Tennis Center. With the loss, the Bulls fall to 6-3 overall and 0-2 in the MAC while the Huskies improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Northern Illinois swept the doubles matches to earn the first point. UB's Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) fell to Cassie Drake and Erica Heshelman, 8-6, at number one. At number two, Michelle Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) were defeated by Tanja Sukovic and Karrie Tyioran, 8-1. At number three, Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) fell to Daniela Martinez and Kristi McIntyre, 8-6.

UB also dropped all six singles matches. At number one, Maynard was defeated by Branka Savic, 6-1, 6-2. At number two, Ortman fell to Drake, 6-3, 6-0. Kollarova, at number three, was defeated by Sukovic, 6-3, 6-2. At number four, Zielinski fell to Tyioran, 6-0, 6-0. Wittman dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Heshelman at number five. At number six, Wendy Rose (Eden, NY/Eden) was defeated by McIntyre, 6-0, 6-1.

The Bulls head to the Aloha State for spring break matches starting with a matchup against Brigham Young-Hawaii on Thursday, March 6. Match time is slated for 7 pm EST. UB will also take on Hawaii (Hilo) and the University of Hawaii on the trip.
