Bulls Complete Weekend Sweep Of Steel City

UB defeats Pittsburgh, 5-2

PITTSBURGH, PA – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team completed its weekend sweep in the Steel City with a 5-2 victory over Pittsburgh. The loss for the Panthers was their first of the season as the Bulls improved to 4-3 on the season.

For the first time this spring, UB’s number one doubles team suffered defeat as Pittsburgh won all three doubles matches. However, UB came back winning five of the six matches in singles competition. Not only did UB win five of the six, but they did so in straight sets in four of the five victories. Denise Harijanto played first singles as she defeated Elizabeth Adams, 6-2, 6-3. At second singles Diana Popescu defeated Kristy Borza, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Diana Toia played third singles and defeated Christie D’Achille, 6-3, 6-0. Smaranda Stan won her match at fourth singles over Minh Evans, 6-0, 7-5, while Anna Subenkova took her match as sixth singles over Shannon Benic, 6-3, 6-3.

The Bulls will now head out on their Spring Break trip and will face Barry University on Tue., March 10. The Bulls will also compete against Southern Illinois and Nova Southern while in Florida.
