BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team saw a six-match winning streak snapped Friday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to Western Michigan in the Bulls' Mid-American Conference opener at the Village Glen Tennis Center. UB is now 6-2 overall and 0-1 in MAC play while Western Michigan, currently on a four-match weekend road swing, improves to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Western Michigan secured the doubles point by sweeping all three matches from the Bulls. UB's Karen Maynard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) fell 8-2 at number one to Rattiya Hiranrat and Valeria Stoilova. At number two, Michelle Kollarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Sport Gymnasium) and Erica Zielinski (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) were defeated, 8-0, by Reedhina Parekh and Malena Remynse. At number three, Sheri Ugowski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Lisa Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) fell by an 8-0 count to Maelynn Bernosky and Shamim Mayanja.

The Bulls also dropped all six singles matches in straight sets. Maynard was defeated by Melanie Peters, 6-3, 6-0, at number one. Ortman fell, 6-4, 6-4, to Remynse at number two. Kollarova lost to Stoilova, 6-0, 6-0, at number three. At number four, Zielinski was defeated by Parekh, 6-0, 6-1. Wittman lost to Mayanja, 6-0, 6-1, at number five. At number six, Wendy Rose (Eden, NY/Eden) was defeated by Bernosky, 6-0, 6-0.

The Bulls look to rebound on Saturday when they host Northern Illinois at 1 pm. The match will be held indoors at the Village Glen Tennis Center.
