Bulls Sweep Dukes, 7-0 UB improves to 3-3 on the year
The Bulls began doubles play with two victories to claim the doubles point. UB’s first doubles team of Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu remained undefeated with an 8-4 victory against Zena Williams and Rachel McGowan. Buffalo also picked up a victory at third doubles as Smaranda Stan and Anna Subenkova defeated Tara Majdalani and Lanna Buehler, 8-3.
In singles action, the Bulls won all six contests, with five of those coming in straight sets. Harijanto, who is regionally ranked by the ITA, defeated Williams at first singles, 6-3-6-2. Popescu defeated her opponent at second singles, 6-1, 7-6 (1) while Stan picked up a win at third singles against Rebecca Poole, 7-6 (4), 6-2. At fourth singles Diana Toia defeated Samantha Noble, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, while Aleksandra Petrova defeated Alexandira Albano at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-2. The Bulls completed the sweep at sixth singles as Subenkova defeated Majdalani, 6-3,6-1. Freshman Sofya Ivanyuk played an exhibition singles match and defeated Stephanie Novakowski, 8-0. The Bulls remain in the Pittsburgh area tomorrow as they face the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
