Bulls Dump Purple Eagles, 7-0

UB women's tennis team cruises past local rivals

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 non-conference victory over local rival Niagara University at Sportsplex in North Tonawanda late Friday night. The Bulls are now 3-1 in dual matches while Niagara falls to 4-6.

The Bulls secured the doubles point to open the match, taking two of the three contests. UB's number two team of Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) defeated Jacquelyn Cary and Julianne Prokopich, 8-1. The number three team of Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) and Sabrina Carmona (Sao Paulo, Brazil/MMDC) downed Kendra Daigler and Shella Dargout, 8-2. The lone UB loss was in the number one match as UB's Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) fell to Mariam Al-Shikarchy and Danielle Greiner, 8-6.

UB swept the singles contests without losing a set. At number one, Nenova knocked off Al-Shikarchy, 6-1, 6-2. At number two, Novaceanu defeated Greiner, 6-2, 6-2. Ortman, at number three, scored a "double-bagel" victory over Daigler, 6-0, 6-0. At number four, Fischer dropped Cary, 6-1, 6-1. Carmona defeated Prokopich, 6-4, 6-3, in the closest singles match at number five. At number six, Jacob rolled past Dargout, 6-2, 6-0.

The Bulls are next in action on March 12 at Mercyhurst.
