Bulls Roll Past St. Bonaventure, 7-0

Bulls win all six singles matches in straight sets

OLEAN, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team picked up its third win of the season, defeating St. Bonaventure, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the SBU Indoor Courts. The Bulls swept through the doubles portion of the contest and then won all six singles matches in straight sets.

UB’s number one doubles team of Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) won their doubles match 8-0 over Anna Perevenzetseva and Yolande Callaghan. UB’s senior duo of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) moved up to second doubles and won their match 8-4 over Maria Barousse and Vanessa Rumpel. At the number three doubles position, Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) and Diana Toia (Rochester, NY/Brighton) defeated Anna Martorell and Ana Delgado, 8-2.

In singles play, UB was led by Harijanto who completed a perfect match by sweeping her match at second singles against Perevenzetseva, 6-0, 6-0. At first singles, Novaceanu defeated Callaghan, 6-2, 6-0 while Popescu remained UB’s leader in singles victories as she defeated Barousse, 6-4, 6-3. Stan took her match at fourth singles over Delgado, 6-0, 6-2 and Jacob won at fifth singles over Rumpel, 6-4, 6-2. At sixth singles, sophomore Anna Subenkova (Riga, Latvia) made her first singles appearance for the Bulls, defeating Martorell, 6-4, 6-1.

The Bulls will be back in action next weekend as they head to West Point, NY for a pair of matches. UB will meet Temple on Saturday at 4:00 pm and then Army on Sunday at 9:00 am.
