Bulls Fall To Nationally-Ranked Tigers The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team dropped its first dual match of the spring season as it fell, 5-2, to Princeton on Sunday. The Tigers were ranked 70th in the latest national poll. The Bulls took one match in doubles and won two in singles. Popescu Continues To Impress Freshman Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) is UB’s leader in singles this season and has won all three of her matches so far during the spring. Against Princeton, Popescu defeated Rebecca Parks, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to improve to 14-1 on the year. The 14 victories are two more than the next Bull in singles victories.
UB’s senior doubles pair of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) picked up a victory in doubles play, downing Sarah Hoffman and Kristen Scott, 8-5. It was UB’s only win during the doubles portion of play, the first time that UB has not claimed the doubles point this year. Joining Popescu with a singles victory was junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) who defeated Sarah Huah, 6-3, 6-7 (8), 1-0 (9). With the win, Stan increased her singles record for the year to 12-2. Up Next The Bulls head down to Olean, NY for a match against St. Bonaventure University on Friday. The Bulls and Bonnies will get things started at 3:00 pm. Last season, the Bulls took a 7-0 shutout victory over St. Bonaventure.
