Bulls Fall To Nationally-Ranked Tigers, 5-2

PRINCETON, NJ – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team took to the road for the first time this spring dropping their first dual match of the season. The host Princeton Tigers took a 5-2 decision over the Bulls, Sunday afternoon at the Jadwin Gym courts. The loss drops UB to 2-1 on the season.

For the first time this season, UB dropped the doubles point as the senior duo of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) picked up the only doubles victory at third doubles scoring a 8-5 victory over Sarah Hoffman and Kristen Scott. The Bulls put up a valiant fight in the other two matches, but fell 8-4 and 8-6, respectively.

In singles play, the Bulls took two of the six matches, winning both in three sets. At third singles, freshman Diana Popescu (Alexandria, Romania/AL. I. Cuza) won over Rebecca Parks, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Popescu remains the UB leader in singles victories this year. In fourth singles, junior Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) defeated Sarah Huah, 6-3, 6-7 (8), 1-0 (9).

The Bulls will remain on the road this Friday as they head to St. Bonaventure for a 3:00 pm start against the Bonnies.
