BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) has been named the Mid-American Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The award was announced at the MAC's headquarters in Cleveland on Wednesday evening.

Nenova put together an undefeated 4-0 record in her singles and doubles matches as UB beat 75th-ranked Syracuse (4-3) on February 9 and Niagara (7-0) on February 11. The team's victory over Syracuse was the first time in school history that the Bulls had defeated a ranked opponent in women's tennis.

Against Syracuse, Nenova, who moved back into the number one spot in singles play as teammate Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) has been sidelined with an injury, scored a 6-3, 6-0 win over Olga Votavova, ranked 28th in the East by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Nenova also defeated Niagara’s Vanja Lukic, 6-1, 6-2, in UB’s 7-0 sweep of the Purple Eagles to remain undefeated in dual meet play this season at 4-0. Nenova is 8-2 overall in singles play this season and she is one win shy of tying Kristen Ortman's (2002-06) all-time singles victories record of 59.

Nenova and freshman Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) also combined to post two wins during the week in doubles play as the duo scored wins over Syracuse’s Catherine Zawadzki and Chelsea Jones, 8-3, on Friday and Niagara’s Jennifer Cremieux and Sheila Dargout, 8-2, on Sunday. The pair leads the team in doubles with a 12-4 record.

The Bulls (4-0) host Duquesne on Saturday, February 24 at the Village Glen Tennis Center in their home opener for the spring. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
