Bulls Fall At Syracuse, 5-2

SYRACUSE, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team picked up doubles and singles victories from Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu, but the Bulls fell at Syracuse, 5-2, Friday afternoon.

In doubles action, UB’s first doubles team of Harijanto and Popescu, who are currently ranked fifth in the East by the ITA, defeated Syracuse’s Christina Tan and Emily Harman, 8-4. However, Syracuse took matches at second and third doubles to claim the point.

In singles action, Harijanto and Popescu continued their dominance as they won singles matches at first and second singles, respectively. Harijanto, who is ranked 28th in the East, defeated Harman, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 12-10 in a super tiebreaker. Popescu defeated her opponent in straight sets as she defeated Tan, 6-2, 6-1. Also taking her match into three sets was junior Anna Subenkova, who won her first set before falling to Chelsea Jones, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-3.

The Bulls will remain on the road next Saturday as they travel to Cornell to take on the Big Red at 1:00 pm
