Bulls Roll Past Niagara, 7-0

Women’s tennis team remains unbeaten at 4-0

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team did not lose a set as the Bulls rolled past Niagara, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Sportsplex in North Tonawanda. The Bulls remain undefeated at 4-0 while Niagara falls to 3-2.

UB opened the match by sweeping all three doubles contests allowing just four games to the Purple Eagles. UB’s number one tandem of Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) defeated Jennifer Cremieux and Sheila Dargout, 8-2. The number two and three matches were won by the Bulls by identical 8-1 scores. UB’s number two team of Natalie Dean (Feilding, New Zealand/Palmerston North) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) scored a win over Kim Roberts and Vanja Lakic while the number three team of Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) and Diana Toia (Rochester, NY/Brighton) downed Jacquelyn Cary and Julianne Prokopich.

The Bulls also rolled in singles as Nenova, playing number one, defeated Lakic, 6-1, 6-2. In the number two match, Dean picked up a victory after Cremieux was forced to retire due to an injury. Dean led 4-0 in the first set when play was stopped. Harijanto knocked off Prokopich in the number three match, 6-1, 6-0. In the number four match, Smaranda Stan (Stantu Gheorghe, Romania/Economic) scored a “double-bagel” win over Dargout, 6-0, 6-0. Jacob defeated Cary, 6-1, 6-3, in the number five match. Toia completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Victoria Tiso in the number six match.
