Bulls Sweep Past Manhattan The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team rolled past Manhattan in their first home dual meet of the season, sweeping the Jaspers, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Village Glen Tennis Center. UB won all six singles matches in straight sets. Bull Dominate Doubles... The Bulls got off to a quick start in doubles as the fifth-ranked team in the East of Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu swept Lindsey Keeler and Morgan MacTaggart of Manhattan, 8-0. UB’s number three doubles team of Aleksandra Petrova and Diana Toia clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 victory over Christine Krasinski and Christina Ton. Also winning in doubles was the number two team of Smaranda Stan and Anna Subenkova, who defeated Casey Conklin and Hilary Valenzuela, 8-5.
In singles play, the Bulls won all six contests in straight sets, including two 6-0, 6-0 victories. Toia defeated her opponent at fourth singles by that mark for UB’s first singles win and Petrova claimed the second 6-0, 6-0 victory at sixth singles. Harijanto, who is ranked 28th in the East in singles, defeated her opponent at first singles, 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the victory for the Bulls. At third singles, Stan defeated her opponent, 6-1, 6-0, while Subenkova defeated her opponent at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-2. Popescu wrapped it up in singles with her 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles. Also winning a pair of matches in exhibition contests was freshman Sofya Ivanyuk and Jenelle Jones-Mitchell. Ivanyuk and Jones-Mitchell combined for a doubles victory and then each won an exhibition match at singles. Bulls Hit The Road For NYS Rivals The Bulls head to Syracuse and Cornell this weekend for two more dual meets. The Bulls face the Orange on Friday at 1:00 pm and then face the Big Red on Saturday at the same time. The Bulls will not be home again until March 28.
