women's tennis team rolled to an easy 7-0 victory over visiting Cleveland State, Sunday afternoon at the Village Glen Tennis Center in Williamsville, improving to 3-0 in dual meets this season. In UB's three dual meets this season, the Bulls have yet to drop a match, scoring shutouts against St. Francis (PA), Rochester and Cleveland State.

Ortman, Dean Combine For Doubles Win, Then Post Bagels

sophomore Natalie Dean (Feilding, New Zealand/Palmerston North) formed UB's number two doubles competition on Sunday, handing the Cleveland State duo of Kristin Chamberlin and Lindsay Sellers an 8-3 loss. Ortman and Dean also achieved "double-bagel" singles victories. In the number two singles match, Ortman needed just 40 minutes to dispose of Jenn Myers, 6-0, 6-0. Dean, playing in the number five slot, also rolled to the win, downing Chamberlain, 6-0, 6-0.

Throwing Blanks in the Second Set

The Bulls achieved a rare feat on Sunday in singles play as all six players scored 6-0 wins in the second set of their matches. In fact, UB only allowed six games won by Cleveland State in the first sets and no more than two in any one match. Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) both posted 6-1, 6-0 wins in their matches while Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) picked up 6-2, 6-0 victories.

Jacob Remains Perfect

Sophomore Tina Jacob

earned her sixth singles win of the season against no defeats with her 6-2, 6-0 win over Cleveland State's Christine Vogelgesang on Sunday. Jacob is now 6-0 in singles matches this season, including three tournament wins at the Bowling Green Invitational last fall. When paired with Andreea Novaceanu to form UB's number one doubles tandem, Jacob is also 6-0. Her lone loss this season was a doubles match with Katrin Fischer as the duo fell to a Stony Brook pair in the Dartmouth Big Green Invitational.

Hitting the Road For In-State Action

The Bulls travel to Central New York this weekend for matches against Syracuse on Friday, February 10 and Colgate on Saturday, February 11. Both matches will be played in Syracuse. The Orange fell to Dartmouth and Brown over the weekend while the Raiders swept weekend matches over Siena, Manhattan and Marist.
