WILLIAMSVILLE, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team rolled to an easy 7-0 victory over visiting Cleveland State, Sunday afternoon at the Village Glen Tennis Center in Williamsville. UB remains perfect with a 3-0 overall record while Cleveland State falls to 6-4 overall.

The Bulls rolled to opening doubles point winning all three contests handily. After trailing 2-1 early, UB's top team of Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and Tina Jacob (Singapore/Raffles JC) won seven of the next nine games to take an 8-4 win over Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott. UB's number two team of Kristen Ortman (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Natalie Dean (Feilding, New Zealand/Palmerston North) picked up an 8-3 win over Kristin Chamberlain and Lindsay Sellers. The number three duo of Katrin Fischer (Ternitz, Austria/Borg) and Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) shut out Jenn Myers and Christine Vogelgesang, 8-0.

In the singles, head coach Kathy Twist juggled her lineup, moving her top four players to different spots on the ladder, as UB rolled to straight-set victories in all six matches, not allowing the Vikings to win a second-set game in any of the matches. Ortman and Dean scored "double-bagel" wins over their Cleveland State opponents to lead the rout. Ortman, at number two, needed just 40 minutes to breeze past Myers, 6-0, 6-0. Dean, meanwhile, also easily handled Chamberlain, 6-0, 6-0. UB clinched the match with the third singles victory, a 6-2, 6-0 win by Jacob over Vogelgesang at number six.

Also picking up a singles victory for the Bulls was Nenova, 6-2, 6-0, over Galon at number one. Novaceanu, at number three, rolled past Ungerott, 6-1, 6-0. Number four Fischer then closed the match with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Sellers.

Although UB needed little effort to get past Cleveland State, who had beaten Niagara, 7-0, on Saturday night, Twist had praise for both teams. "They [Cleveland State] were very strong, they got good shots, but we got better shots. Our shots today were outstanding. We kept attacking. We had great teamwork and communication today," Twist said.

The Bulls travel to Central New York next weekend with matches against Syracuse on Friday, February 10 and Colgate on Saturday, February 11. Both matches will be played in Syracuse.
