WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened dual competition on Saturday with a convincing 5-2 victory over Big East foe St. John's at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville.
The Bulls swept the opening doubles point as the number one duo of Denise Harijanto and Aleksandra Petrova rolled to an 8-1 win over Anastasia Zavorgodini and Ece Firat. The point was clinched at number three as Diana Toia and Diana Popescu scored an 8-3 win over Jenny Yonkus and Alyssa Liantonio.
"I'm happy with what they did today," said UB head coach Kathy Twist. "They played aggressive tennis and our next level is to keep going forward."
The Bulls (1-0) travel next weekend to Ithaca for the Cornell Tournament starting on Friday.
