Rachel Sorg Backstroke/IM Junior Ottawa, Ontario Canterbury

2006-07: Finished 14th in the 100 backstroke (58.93) and 20th in the 200 backstroke (2:10.09) at the MAC Championships. Swam the opening leg of UB’s 400 medley relay which finished sixth in a season-best 3:54.92 at the MAC meet. Set lifetime best of 57.98 at the Akron Invitational to finish second in the 100 backstroke.

2005-06 Named the team’s Top Newcomer. Won the 100-yard backstroke event in a time of 58.62 at Akron’s SummaCare Invitational (fourth quickest time in the MAC). Finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (58.10) and eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:05.91) at the MAC Championships.

High School: Earned MVP honors in 2002 and 2003 while swimming for head coach Eileen Duffin at Canterbury High School. Also competed for the Nepean Kanata Barracudas for four years under coach Dave Heinbuch where she competed in the backstroke finals at the 2005 Junior Nationals.

Personal: Born December 6, 1986. Daughter of William and Mary Anne Sorg. Has one brother (John) and three sisters (Debbie, Lynda, Marg). Favorite athlete is U.S. gold medalist Aaron Peirsol. Favorite movie is Fight Club. Majoring in exercise science.
