Squads Split MAC Meets Over the Weekend
The men’s and women’s swim teams split their weekend meets against Mid-American Conference competition. On Friday, the UB women fell to Eastern Michigan, 144-97, while the men were defeated by the defending conference champs, 136.5-94.5. The Bulls rebounded on Saturday with victories over Ball State with the UB women taking a 143.5-99.5 decision against the Cardinals and the men scoring a 129-113 win.
Lehner Breaks 500-Yard Freestyle Record
Andrea Lehner | In Friday’s meet against Eastern Michigan, women’s sophomore Andrea Lehner (Lockport, NY/Orchard Park) won two individual events and was part of a winning relay team as she broke the UB record in winning the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.97, slicing more than a second and a half off the previous mark of 4:57.97 set by Jennefer Brankovsky in 2005. Lehner also won the 200-yard individual medley in a season-best 2:04.13, cutting four seconds off her previous top time. In Saturday’s matchup with Ball State, Lehner took three individual titles. She opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 1:52.44. She then posted a season-best mark in the 100-yard freestyle touching the wall in 51.64 as the Bulls scored the top three finishers in the race and finished off the meet with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.04.
50-50 For Koltz
Jessie Koltz | Freshman sprinter Jessie Koltz (Chenengo Bridge, NY/Chenengo Valley) won the 50-yard freestyle in both meets over the weekend. Koltz opened the weekend with a 24.69 against Eastern Michigan. Against Ball State, she lowered her season-best mark to 24.34, knocking 12 hundredths of a second off her previous best, set on October 19 against Duquesne.
Divers Finish Weekend With Three of Four Wins
Michael McDowell | UB’s diving tandem of sophomores Meili Carpenter (Boulder, CO/Fairview) and Michael McDowell (Rush, NY/Rush Henrietta) were strong over the weekend. Against EMU, Carpenter won the one-meter diving competition with a six-dive score of 292.95 points while McDowell turned in a six-dive total of 298.20 points for the UB win on the three-meter board. The twosome swept both events against Ball State with close to record-setting results. Carpenter took the one-meter event with a six-dive total of 292.28 points and then won the three-meter competition with a total of 300.46 points. McDowell was also victorious twice against Ball State, winning the one-meter event at 310.43 points and the three-meter event, just missing out on his school record, with a total of 350.85 points. The total was six points shy of the three-meter record that he had posted against Duquesne on October 19.
