Bulls Fall to Bobcats, 166-129
ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo women's swim team dropped a 166-129 decision at Ohio University to complete the first weekend of Mid-American Conference action. The Bulls fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in MAC play while the Bobcats improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the MAC. Sophomore Andrea Lehner (Lockport, NY/Orchard Park) won two individual events for the Bulls on Saturday. Lehner scored a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:52.11 and cutting a half-second off her previous best this season. Lehner won the race by a tenth of a second over Ohio's Ilse Petersen (1:52.21). Lehner later went on to win the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.15.
Sophomore Sam Palma (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) won the 100-yard butterfly for the second time in two days. Palma turned in a 58.62 clocking. Sophomore Kim Dale (Cary, NY/Raleigh Charter) won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:41.60. Sophomore Meili Carpenter (Boulder, CO/Fairview) won the 3-meter diving competition with a total score of 283.95 points for six dives. The Bulls also took the final event of the meet, the 800-yard freestyle relay as the foursome of Lehner, Jordan Deren (Lackawanna, NY/Nardin Academy), Renae Sharkey (Fords, NJ/Metuchen) and Emily Day (Speedway, IN/Roncalli) finished in 8:02.14. The Bulls return home next weekend to host defending MAC champion Eastern Michigan and Ball State at Alumni Arena Natatorium. UB faces the Eagles on Friday, November 9 at 4:00 pm and the Cardinals on Saturday, November 10 at 1:00 pm. |
