Women's Swimmers Fall to RedHawks

UB drops MAC opener, 188.5-108.5 to Miami (OH)

OXFORD, OH – The University at Buffalo's women's swim team dropped its Mid-American Conference opener on Friday afternoon with a 188.5-108.5 loss to Miami (OH) at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center. The Bulls are now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in MAC competition. The victory by the RedHawks (2-1, 1-0 MAC) was their 47th consecutive MAC dual meet win.

The Bulls won six of the 16 events on Friday with sophomore Andrea Lehner (Lockport, NY/Orchard Park) taking a pair of races.

Lehner opened the meet with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.04. She later won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.40.

Other winners in the pool for the Bulls included Caitlin Reilly (Brockville, Ontario/John McCrae SS), Jordan Deren (Lackawanna, NY/Nardin Academy) and Sam Palma (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). Reilly won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.70, cutting five seconds off her top time this season in the event. Deren won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.15, touching out Miami's Kathryn Stephens by three-fourths of a second. Palma took the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best 57.63.

UB sophmore Meili Carpenter (Boulder, CO/Fairview) won the one-meter diving competition with a six-dive total score of 280.87 points.

The Bulls travel to Athens, OH on Saturday to complete the weekend roadtrip with a meet at Ohio University starting at 1:00 pm.
