Carpenter Finishes Three-Meter Springboard in 33rd Place
COLUMBUS, OH – The University at Buffalo’s Meili Carpenter (Boulder, CO/Fairview) finished 33rd among 38 divers Friday afternoon in the three-meter diving competition at the 2008 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Ohio State’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavillion. Carpenter turned in a six-dive total of 254.40 points and was unable to move past the preliminary round for the second day of competition. The top 16 scorers moved on to the consolation and championships rounds on Friday evening. Hawaii sophomore Emma Friesen was the top scorer in the preliminary round with 362.90 points. Carpenter became UB’s first women’s athlete to compete in the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships thanks to her victory in the platform competition at last weekend’s NCAA Zone A Championships held at Alumni Arena. The top five divers from the zone advanced to the national meet. She finished 27th of 40 divers in Thursday’s one-meter competition. Carpenter will compete tomorrow in the platform diving event as the meet comes to a conclusion.
