Bulls Barrel Over Niagara, 155-76

Women's Swimmers Improve to 4-4

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team scored a 155-76 over Niagara University Saturday afternoon at Niagara's Oxy Aquatics Center. The Bulls are now 4-4 with the victory while the Purple Eagles are 2-6.

The Bulls spread the wealth around on Saturday as eight individuals won events, including sophomore Meili Carpenter (Boulder, CO/Fairview) sweeping the diving competitions. UB also won one of the two relay races from the Purple Eagles on Saturday.

Carpenter scored 252.00 points on the one-meter diving board and 250.00 on the three-meter board to sweep both competitions.

Alisa Koopman (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:18.93.

Sophomore Sam Palma (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) also set a season best with her victory in the 200-yard freestyle. Palma touched the wall in 1:57.95, cutting five seconds off her previous best.

Other individual winners for the Bulls included freestylers Catherine Scharf (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and Jessica Ballard (Montreal, Quebec/Academic Magnet), butterflier Andrea Lehner (Lockport, NY/Orchard Park), backstroker Ashley Olsen (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary) and IMer Jessie Koltz (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Valley).

Scharf won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.64 while Ballard took the 500-yard distance in 5:20.28. Lehner won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.12. Olsen took the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.49 and Koltz won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.46.

Andrea Scharf (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) combined with Ballard, Lehner and Olsen to take the meet's final event, the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.90.

The Bulls travel to Akron to face the Zips in their return to the Mid-American Conference schedule on Friday, January 25 at 5:00 pm.
