Women's Soccer Weekly ReportCurrent record - 8-0-1 (2-0-0 Mid-American Conference)Bulls Still Perfect UB is off to the best start in school history with an 8-0-1 record. The Bulls extended the unbeaten streak to nine games with two MAC wins this past weekend, a 3-2 overtime win at Toledo and a 3-0 shutout win at Bowling Green. The nine game unbeaten streak matches the longest unbeaten streak in the program's history. In the 1982-83 seasons, the Bulls also went nine games without a loss, five games at the end of the 1982 season and four games at the beginning of the 1983 season.
Buffalo Hits the National Rankings Buffalo has received some recognition in the polls for their quick start. The Bulls are currently ranked 10th in the Northeast Region, one of six regions ranked. Out of the top ten teams in those six regions, Buffalo is one of four teams, along with defending national champion Florida, final four participant Santa Clara, and St. Mary's, who has yet to lose a game this season.
Listrani Carries Bulls In First Two MAC Wins Junior Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY) had an outstanding weekend of action in the Bulls two road MAC games. At Toledo, Listrani scored twice and assisted on a third goal in a 3-2 overtime win. She knocked in the game winner in overtime as well. At Bowling Green, Listrani scored twice more, and assisted on a third goal in a 3-0 shutout win for UB. The Bulls are a perfect 2-0 in MAC competition.
Bulls Defense Slowing Down Opponents The Bulls defense is making it hard on opposing teams to put the ball between the pipes. It took 292 minutes of play to start the season for an opponent to score against the Bulls and goalie Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY). Adams has recorded a shutout six times this year and given up just three goal for a goals against average of 0.38. As a team, the Bulls have given up just four goals on the season.
Freshman Phenoms The Bulls have two newcomers near the top of the team in scoring this year. In addition to junior Paula Listrani who leads the team, freshmen Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY) and Samantha Swerdloff (Montclair, NJ) have put there names at the top of the scoring threats for the Bulls. Pfeffer recorded five goals in a two game stretch versus Detroit and Canisius, including a hat trick against Detroit. Swerdloff has scored in every game but two this year, and is tied for a team-high eight goals on the year and second in points with 14. Pfeffer is second in goals scored with five and third in points with 11.
UB Opens Home MAC Season UB will begin its home conference schedule this weekend after opening with two MAC wins on the road last weekend. UB defeated Toledo 3-2 in overtime and beat Bowling Green 3-0 last weekend. Friday, UB will host Western Michigan at 7 pm, and host Northern Illinois on Sunday at 1 pm.
Assault on the Records Junior Paula Listrani is moving her way up the UB record books. With her eight goals this year, she now has 27 career goals, putting her in tie for fifth place. She has also recorded 64 points in her career, placing her fourth in career points, as well. Another junior, goalie Jaime Adams, is making her mark in the record books as well. Adams is ranked third in career saves with 257 and moved into the top spot in career wins with 22.
MAC Standings The Bulls are currently tied for the Mid
American Conference lead with a 2-0-0 league record.
Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Ohio are all 2-0 as well.
UB is the only team with an overall perfect mark of
8-0-1. Eastern Michigan has the next best overall record at 8-1-0.
